Nudie Jeans
Nudie Jeans are designer-jeans (also called premium denim) from far up north - Sweden to be precise. The premium denim market is dominated by expensive denim brands from Hollywood - such as «Earl Jeans», «Paper Denim» or «For all Mankind» with new labels coming up all the time. With a somewhat different philosophy, Nudie Jeans managed to create their own niche. «Every man is unique. In the same way, every pair of Jeans is unique – because it isn't only created by the designer, but also by the person wearing them», says Nudie designer Maria Erixon. She doesn't force a certain look upon her customers, but leaves room for the personality of the Nudi(e)sts. That Maria Erixon should tailor her Nudie Jeans for men only, is characteristic of the designer. She'd rather do one thing thoroughly than to loose herself in diversity. Thus her collection is always exceptionally compact: There's never more than twenty types of jeans, a few t-shirts, a couple of shirts and that’s it. Who cares to look at peoples bottoms, will realise that there's quite a few people already fallen for the Nudie-philosophy.

Nudie Organic Denim
Denim is made of cotton, which causes great damage to our environment both in terms of water consumption (7000 to 29.000 litres of water for each kilogram of ready garment) and in terms of poisonous substances and insecticides. Cotton fields stand for 25% of all insecticides worldwide! Air, water and other natural resources are critical to any kind of future, and therefore essential to the future of business. In denim production we see a lot of potential to make a difference for the environment.
Our denim producers are ahead on developing organic denim, both out of 100% organic cotton and as blended yarn, where they blend in organic cotton into the normal production. Every step of the production follows detailed and accurate rules that makes it organic denim. The cotton comes from organic production, and the spinning, dyeing and finishing of the yarn is also carried out according to ecological procedures. Making use of ecological stuff, like potato starch and pre-reduced indigo, any kind of chemical stuff is excluded from the schedule of operation, in order to respect these principles to 100%.
How to take care of your Nudie Denim

Dry Denim
Dry, dark unwashed denim, is the strongest and most durable alternative, and will also give the most personal result. Use your dry jeans as much as possible before the first wash. Six months is a good start. A pair of jeans is like a second skin where the indigo and denim are living materials. Jeans is all about passion and deep relationship – the more you wear and treat your jeans, the more beautiful they get. Your everyday life gives the denim its unique character, formed by you into a second skin – personal and naked. As long as they are dry (dark and stiff) they have a surface, almost like they are water resistant. You should not try to clean local spots as it removes the indigo and you will get a bleach spot for a long time. The longer you can keep them unwashed, the more beautiful they will get. |

Washing your dry jeans
Turn well worn dry jeans inside out otherwise they might get unwanted crinkles from the machine. Use washing powder with little or no bleach. Wash in 60 degrees to get a better fading effect of the indigo and the natural worn in effects also get more evident. You can wash in 40 degrees if you prefer to get a darker cast. Turn them back to normal and shake them flat, otherwise they might get unwanted stay press effect. When they are still damp you can stretch the inseam as much as needed. Let them dry naturally by hanging, not folded. If you prefer to keep the dry look (dark and slightly greycasted) you can have them dry cleaned which only removes the dirt but does not affect the indigo fading process as water is not added. |

Prewashed jeans
Many people want to buy jeans with a used look. These jeans are washed and treated in different ways to give them a worn and used look from day one. To get the authentic second hand feeling and washed look the distressed denim is achieved through bleaching and several mechanical treatments like stonewashes, sandblasting and scraping locally. All these processes is time consuming, hand made and expensive, which is reflected in the higher prices compared to dry denim (unwashed). The effect of the treatments that are made to get a second hand feeling is permanent and can not be removed. They are comparable to jeans already worn for years and years. This means that they will not last as long as if you buy them dry and break in your own denims. Prewashed jeans don't have to be treated as dry jeans, There is no point in waiting a long time to wash them as the prewash effect is already done. |

Martin G. «I got my dry Flare Glenn jeans more than 2 years ago and used them every day for 6 months before the first wash. They were then very dirty and shiny.
I haven’t been particularly careful with the jeans, but used them for everything and dried off some ”snus” on them. They are now washed in 60 degrees two or three times maximum and after that dried hanging.»

Danne «I got my Nudie jeans in the beginning of 2001. I used them more or less everyday for eight months before I washed them. They where extremely dirty from snuff and beer and they got some extra abrasions from the guitar and the visit at Hultsfred rock festival.
I washed them in 40 degrees with no washing powder, just as a rinse. Turned inside out and with no dry tumbling.
These jeans, a Regular Ralf Dry Selvage, have only been washed twice.»

Martin S. «The jeans on the picture are a pair of dry Flare Glenn and they were used for about five months before the first wash. Then I washed them in 60 degrees colour wash with a washing powder without bleach, inside out and then hang them to dry. The contrasts in the colour appeared after the wash and the jeans became a bit softer and more comfortable. They shrunk just enough on the length but nothing on the width. A month later I washed the jeans again, that time in 40 degrees. Now after 18 months, they have been washed four times and have been aired frequently on the balcony and they have been used a lot. The next challenge will be a pair of Selvage.»

Melker «This pair of Regular Ralf dry selvage has been used for about a year. In the beginning I used them more or less every day. At first I had fold-ups but after a while they got shorter because of the crinkles and moisture.
I think I’ve only washed them once, after something like 6 months. I had to wash them after a journey in Indonesia. It was really hot and the jeans were stinking. A really quick wash in 40 degrees with just a little washing-powder. A couple of weeks after that wash the jeans started to look really nice.» |
